Iran puts journalists on trial for reporting on young woman's death in custody

Iran has put two female journalists, Niloufar Hamedi and Elaheh Mohammadi, on trial for reporting on the death of Mahsa Amini, a young woman who died in custody after being arrested for wearing her hijab "improperly." Amini's death sparked mass anti-government protests in Iran.

Hamedi and Mohammadi have been charged with "collaborating with the hostile US government" and "propaganda against the establishment." At least 75 other journalists have been arrested in Iran since the protests began.

Hamedi posted a photo of Amini's father and grandmother embracing on Twitter, while Mohammadi published a story about Amini's funeral.

The trial has been criticized for its closed-door proceedings and lack of due process.
