This week, Maison Alaïa appointed Pieter Mulier as the brand's first Creative Director since the death of its namesake designer.
More than three years after the death of its founder-"the smallest of the great couturiers" as the fashion-sphere liked to describe it-the Maison Alaïa has just announced the arrival of Belgian designer Pieter Mulier as the new Creative Director. Ex-right arm of Raf Simons beginning during his tenure at Jil Sander, Mulier worked for big houses such as Christian Dior in Paris and Calvin Klein in New York. As the first designer to succeed the late Azzedine Alaïa, he thus takes the reins of one of the most legendary houses in the fashion landscape. Decades after the Maison's launch in 1980, it remains a well-regarded beacon of form-fitting fashion, in part due to the namesake designer's history with rebranding and repopularizing the bodycon dress, a staple wardrobe piece. While waiting to discover his next creations under the aegis of the Alaïa workshops, L'OFFICIEL looks back on the close link that celebrities have maintained, year after year, with the Parisian house.
