Actor Kevin Spacey Takes the Stand in London Trial for Sexual Assault Charges

Kevin Spacey, the two-time Oscar winning actor, has taken the stand to give his defense during his trial for sexual assault at London's Southwark Crown Court.

Spacey is facing 12 sexual offence charges, all of which he denies.

The 63-year-old actor told the jury that he had developed a "flirtatious" relationship over time with one of his accusers and that he touched the man in "romantic" and "intimate" ways.

He admitted to being a "big flirt", but denied that the touching was done in a violent, aggressive, or painful way.

According to Spacey, the complainant had made statements such as "this is new for me" and had indicated that he did not want to go further.

The actor claimed that he had not taken things further because of this.

The prosecution has finished its evidence against Spacey, after the jury heard accounts from his four alleged victims.

The complainants variously described Spacey as a "vile sexual predator", "slippery", and "atrocious, despicable, disgusting".

Jurors heard of alleged "aggressive" crotch grabs against three men, while a fourth complainant accused Spacey of having drugged him and performing a sex act on him while he was asleep.

On Wednesday, prosecutor Shauna Ritchie said that Spacey had told police that he was "baffled" by the claims of one man and did not recognize the others.

Spacey denied deliberately attacking his final alleged victim but admitted to making a "clumsy pass".

The four accusers are entitled to lifelong anonymity under the law.

Spacey won an Oscar for Best Actor in 2000 for American Beauty and also received Emmy nominations for his role in House of Cards.

The trial continues.
